Asian/Southasian Heritage Month

On Monday, my class had the opportunity to learn a little bit about Asian and Southasian Heritage. In YRDSB, May is the month where we dedicate some extra time learning and understanding these cultures and traditions.

Since the majoirty of our school is Asian / Southasian, we hosted an activity day to explore and learn!

1/2 Suppa has been working on descriptive writing, and using JUICY words in our writing.

Using photos of food from Asian and Southasian cultures the students used the Graffiti technique to brainstorm and write down their ideas about each food. They used their senses to describe how the food looked, smelled, felt, tasted, and maybe even sounded. After brainstorming, we took those words to create Wordles to show the juicy words to describe each item (photos to come).

The students are amazed with their writing. They feel so confident and pleased with the visual effects of Wordle. It's definitely a way to showcase "adjectives" and "juicy words" about a topic.
